Our family of seven recently vacationed in California. I used these tips to make our road trip run smooth and easy!
15 Tips for Easy Gluten-Free Road Trips
1. Travel by car whenever possible
2. Pack your clothes 4 days in advance so that you have time to get food packed
3. Don’t risk a reaction for the sake of convenience - eating out might not be worth the risk.
4. Plan your meals ahead of time and eat from your pantry -
5. Can soups, stews, beans and meat as soon as you know that you will be traveling.
6. Pack jars in a JarBox
7. Prepare baked goods ahead of time and freeze - muffins, pancakes, cookies
8. Pack refrigerated/frozen foods in a cooler with dry ice
9. Buy your usual snacks and pack them for the drive there and back
10. Prepare grab and go foods for the car - meat muffins, sliced veggies, baby carrots, apples, bananas, cookies, chips etc
11. Stay in hotels that have a fridge and microwave or rent a house/cabin for your stay
12. Map out the grocery stores along the way
13. Plan on buying fresh produce when you arrive at your destination
14. Don’t forget to pack: salt, pepper, paper plates and bowls, plastic utensils, a sharp knife, cooking oils and any baking supplies you will need if you have access to a kitchen.
15. If you will be cooking while on vacation, bag up mixes for easy prep - like pancake mix. Don’t forget to pack the wet ingredients that you will need to finish cooking them.
